Must-Do Destination Wairarapa & beyond
The name Wairarapa, meaning “glistening waters” in Te Reo Maori traditionally is based on an early Maori explorer, named Haunui, who saw the rivers and lake from the mountains to the west.
Traveling from Wellington , you drive over the winding, scenic Remutaka Hill road. Halfway down there’s a point where you have a magnificent view over the Wairarapa where bush-clad ranges to the west across flat plains to a rugged coast on the east. Discover the Must-Do Destination Wairarapa.
